This week I found the reading on the different ways to build conflict helpful in the way that it categorizes the behaviors of conflict overall. I thought the distinction made between wide angle internal and external conflict was an especially helpful one because they are two ways of treating conflict that add even more interest in a story when used symbiotically with one another. They very much can inform one another and add dimension to a character and the culmination of their internal and external stresses. I also see that in my personal work I want to work harder to craft medium shot conflicts or little bumps along the way. These ultimately force a character into a decision and I feel a story shouldn’t just be a character making random decisions but that the character should be guided by the events to be forced into making decisions. I personally really lean towards and enjoy conflicts that characters learn from in a more Buddha’s perspective approach to conflict.

Even in reading on sound in cinematic storytelling I find it the most helpful that aspects of sound are broken down into more differentiated categories. The 4 elements being realistic, expressive, surreal, and external, give me more tools with which I can understand and analyze sound. Understanding sound more has given me more ways of articulating how I envision sound design for my own projects.
